The school offers Gumbaynngiir Culture and Language Classes once a week. This program has been highly successful with students being invited to perform all over the area at a variety of Official and Community functions resulting in great culture, school and community pride.

St Mary’s Gumbaynggirr Language classes were recently featured on a DVD produced by the department of education to be distributed to every school in NSW as an example of excellence in teaching in Aboriginal language.

HIGH SCHOOL

St Mary’s students have a variety of options for high school. They can stay on here at St Mary’s, as students of John Paul College, until year 9. In Year 7 and Year 8 they are at St Mary’s 4 days a week and John Paul College, Coffs Harbour, one day a week.
From Year 9 they attend John Paul College five days a week.

Students also have the option to apply for Indigenous Scholarships to some of the best boarding schools in Australia – boys - St Ignatious Riverview and St Joseph’s Hunters Hill and –girls – Kincoppal Rose Bay and St Vincent’s College Potts Point.
